Call Me The Moon is the latest project and album from the experienced and talented musician, Mark L. Oakes.
The Belgian singer-songwriter has compiled a collection of beautiful ballads and easy listening folk rock tunes that are sure to please any ears.
One might compare Mark’s sound to a modern version of Neil Young with a bit more piano instead of guitar, but Oakes is by no means a tribute artist. He has developed a melodically driven style of folk music with strong subtext and a truly emotive sound. Mark also notes artists such as Tom Petty, Tucker Zimmerman and Ryan Adams as some of his primary influences and this is clear when listening to his expertly-crafted songs.
‘Shredded Jeans’ is a highlight from Call Me The Moon and the name of the track seems perfectly apt when you consider that Oakes labelled the record as the ideal soundtrack for a ‘karmic road trip’.
Mainly tracked at Mark’s home studio in the heart of the Ardennes, the record has been finalised with the help of Londoner cellist, Ben Trigg, and mastered by Grammy award winner Gavin Lurssen in Los Angeles. Travelling between Europe and the United States with a bag full of projects, Mark sees Call Me The Moon as a silver thread out of a vague existential maze.
