James Sayer – Sweet Baby Jane

James Sayer is a singer-songwriter, known throughout London for his session work & shows at the capital’s swankiest piano bars.

Hailing from Birmingham, James’ fascination and love of music began at a very young age when he learnt all things Rock n Roll through artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Elton John and Billy Joel. Jamesmoved to London in 2012 where he became a gigging musician, performing almost every night in piano bars, clubs and pubs. Eventually James met American producer, Alan Glass (Mis-Teeq, Kenny G), and they began working on James’ debut material. By early 2015, James had recorded an album’s worth of demo recordings, and they were passed on to five time Grammy winner and former member of The Doobie Brothers, Michael McDonald.

Blown away by his music, Michael then contacted James with the opportunity for a U.S. tour with BBC Radio 1 breakthrough act Ruen Brothers. During which time they supported George Ezra, played Coachella, and even snagged a live recording session with legendary producer Rick Rubin.

Later that year, James finished his first piece of solo work – ‘Taking Back My Love’. A pure representation of what James’ sound embodies – musicianship, passion & a bit of danceability! After uploading the track to BBC Introducing, The track was immediately picked up and made ‘Track of the Week’ by BBC 3 Counties. Mark Forrest also showed some love on his national BBC Introducing show, all of which contributed to two sold-out London launch shows.

The Follow-Up Sweet Baby Jane, see’s James at his vintage best. Influences range from the big band sound, to jazz & all out feel-good pop. The stand-out feature is James’ musical flair & love of songwriting. It’s a track that will leave the listener with a smile, as well as appealing to an audience of elitist music fans.

Colin Clyne rides the ‘Merry Go Round’ – latest single on June 30th

Upbeat acoustic roots tune taken from album ‘The Never Ending Pageant’ – released 21st July

Scotland born folk singer-songwriter Colin Clyne, a versatile acoustic artist as comfortable spinning off an upbeat folk ditty as a heartrending dose of roots melancholy, returns this summer with excellent single ‘Merry Go Round’, taken from album ‘The Never Ending Pageant’.

The single, a straight, driving example of how to write an acoustic folk track with true momentum and subtle harmonies, mixes Clyne’s Scottish folk heritage with a touch of Americana in the vocal arrangements – thanks perhaps to 10 years spent living in California.

It’s the first song from the new LP, both released through Colin’s hometown label Fat Hippy Records, a burgeoning independent label who have also recently signed a deal with fellow Aberdonian – and runner up on The Voice USA – Terry McDermott.

The album was produced & Engineered by Grammy Award Winning Engineer Alan Sanderson (The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Ryan Adams, Burt Bacharach), and you can hear the first single here:

https://soundcloud.com/colinclyne/merry-go-round-1

It’s not difficult to see why his fans include influential new music tastemakers such as Jim Gellatly, John McRuvie, STV and Chris Hawkins of BBC 6 Music – the reflection of an impressive independent career that has seen Clyne support The Red Hot Chilli Pipers (internationally acclaimed Scottish touring band) at a Hogmanay gig in front of 6,000 people, as well as appearing at Belladrum Festival, Edinburgh Festival, The Viper Room in L.A, and the Sacramento Highland Games which boasts over 20,000 people.

Another highlight saw him crowned ‘Best Acoustic Act’ at the San Diego Music Awards in 2011 and 2012 (previously winners include Jewel and Jason Mraz), as well as being named by NBC San Diego as one of San Diego’s top 12 Singer songwriters. That particular list contained an elite list of names, including Jewel, Tom Waits and the late Jim Croce.

It marks an incredible career trajectory for an artist whose first cd was rehearsed and written in the cold store of a ship that he used to work in many years ago. In fact, the lifelong ship worker still does stints at sea from time to time, enjoying the time and space as good song writing inspiration.

All very impressive from an artist who, having severed his fingers in his teens having hardly learned a chord, didn’t touch a guitar again until he was 23.

Single ‘Merry Go Round’ will be released June 30th from the album ‘The Never Ending Pageant’ out July 21st.

Richard Rhys O’Brien’s Debut Album Made Available Online for All Music Lovers Worldwide

Richard Rhys O’Brien’s debut album is now made available online for all music lovers worldwide. “I Know A Little Place” is an album full of inspirational songs, fun lyrics and great musical arrangement that audiences around the world would surely love to include in their playlist.

Listen to the album here: http://richardrhysobrien.com/albums/iknowalittleplace/

Richard Rhys O’Brien is a singer songwriter who started writing in 2009, after a career as an economist and futurist. This background has taught him many things about how the world revolves, inspiring him to write his songs of love and life, accompanied by wry commentary on contemporary issues such as climate change (as in “cloud on the horizon”- video included) and consumerism – with the accompanying video “ choice would be a fine thing”.

Richard Rhys O’Brien style draws on folk, rock, blues, country and classical influences – particularly inspired by a lifelong following of Loudon Wainwright III, Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. He has been singing with the North London choir Eclectic Voices since 2000 (jazz, gospel, classical and world music) and plays piano and keyboards.

Some of his popular songs that are included in his debut album are “Take it as it Comes”, “Audition Blues”, “Silvery Moon”, “Rollercoaster”, “She Said Yes!”The song “No truth, No Lies” is one of the more serious songs where Richard Rhys O’Brien reveals a little bit  of a preachy  tone and “Heroes or zeroes” reflects on the slide from great leadership to dictatorship . in contrast other songs on the album like ““If You Say You Cannot See My Shadow” and “Be Like a Bird” display his playful and lighter tones.

His songs feature other professional and talented musicians and singers like Bruce Knapp (guitars), Tony Shepherd (drums), Richard Sadler (bass), Christine Axelle and Callie Howard (supporting vocals) all produced with Matthew Knapp and recorded in Brighton.

His debut album, composing 14 songs, is mainly inspired by the blues, tangos, waltz and lullaby, reflecting modern life and love with accompaniment of sparkling guitar, tinkling piano, pulsating bass and drums as well as great lyrics that are sung with remarkable clarity.

Songwriter Richard Rhys O’Brien knows exactly how to strike a delicate balance between playful arrangements and heartfelt songwriting that infuses great musical direction from different band’s muses. Richard Rhys O’Brien’s debut album is available on iTunes and Amazon Store.

Blues Rock/Country band Cowboy Hat release debut album ‘A History of The American West and Other Stories’

Released 3rd June 2014

London based Americana enthusiast Cowboy Hat is set to release debut album in June.

Could it be the best Alt. Country debut album you’ll hear this year? Well, it has already been described as ‘Timeless’ and ‘Lyrically breath taking’. With some strong lyrics based around a historical theme, alongside the rich warm vocals from Nigel Barker, it is certainly an album worth listening to.

And ‘These Men Dreamed America’ Here: http://youtu.be/qJqhAbH6rZI

Singer songwriter Nigel Barker formed Cowboy Hat in 2012 in London which is surprising as the songs are heavily influenced by American music and history. With band members changing over time, he is the only official member of this innovative country rock band.

Nigel Barker’s musical life hasn’t always been an easy ride. When assistant engineering at Air Montserrat Recording Studios for the Elton John ‘Jump Up’ album, he encountered a terrible accident.

On one of his rare days off he crashed his car off a steep drop, the car was upside down and if it hadn’t been for an off duty cop, Nigel would have bled to death. Whilst he narrowly escaped death, he was left without the use of his left hand, which at the time came at a huge blow to his music career as he could not continue on with the record deal he had signed just months ago.

As at this stage Nigel could not continue his dream of music he used his creative energies to become film director, even though he saw some great success creating 3 feature films and winning awards for his work, it didn’t fill that hole that music had left in his life.

Nigel didn’t play his guitar for 30 years after the accident, however after 17 years he got a Harley Davison motorcycle and Nigel believes it was the heavy clutch that built the strength back into his left hand.

When he rediscovered music, he went out and bought the very same guitar he had all those years ago (A sunburst Gibson Les Paul). He spent 18 hours a day practicing until he learnt to play again.

Now back and stronger than ever Nigel is stepping into the spotlight with Cowboy Hat, the music is, raw, rich and full of power. The vocals and lyrical content really are the backbone of this fantastic release. There are big things to come for this innovative record and inspiring man.

Steve Murray & Kingbird – ‘Angels & Butterflies’

Part of the New Wave era with the band Fast Cars, Steve Murray is back with a new sound, a new album and a new single.

The acoustic rock track ‘Angels & Butterflies’ is an uplifting track about overcoming adversity, with a strong country vibe and a distinctive vocal performance by Murray himself. It’s a great example of the new approach he’s taken for his new album, a mellow, stripped back style of rock that suits his voice perfectly.

You can hear the single here: https://soundcloud.com/labelled-independent/steve-murray-kingbird-angels

The LP itself, ‘Audio Book’, was released to raise funds for  a charity called “Georgia’s Children of the World” set up by Steve and his daughter Georgia’s friends,  after  she unfortunately passed away following complications in her third heart operation. Available now but slated for a possible re-issue early in 2014, it’s a strong collection of songs full of positive messages, a value it shares with its writer.

‘Audio Book’ is the latest release in an enviable musical career. As well as working on projects alongside the likes of Mark Riley (6 Music), Paul Weller and The Jam and Joy Division, Steve Murray was the songwriter of ‘The Kids Just Wanna Dance’ – a Fast Cars single that is now amongst the top 20 most collectible from the period. Recently released on an album by Californian band Emily’s Army, the song was hand picked by Billy Joe Armstong of Green Day who also produced the album which features his son Joey on drums.
