Feline And Strange: Aliens From Above Are Here, And They Bring The Music Of The Future

With the recent release of their brand new album ‘OUT’, these flamboyant musicians are taking the electro wave-cabaret scene in a whole different direction.

With a vast mix of exciting and new ideas, brought by head masterminds Feline Lang and Christoph Klemke, Feline and Strange is an eclectic and unique concept.

Spawning from the idea that aliens have come down to earth, and are trying to make a living through performing and recording, fitting the music into their strange but wonderful show.

‘OUT’, which is the most recent addition to their previous 4 albums, was inspired by the world events, and their views on the Syrian refugee crisis. “I was reading all the good news from home, and still couldn`t help harbouring dark feelings that this was too good to be true. And even before I came home, I was proven right when the first refugee homes burned, assaulted by fascists”. explained Feline.

However, this is an album that will satisfy all of you electro, classic, Depeche mode inspired needs, so be sure not to miss out.

‘Caving’ by Ciqala

‘Caving’ is the latest single from Ciqala who blends a unique combination of alternative rock stylings with dark and evocative electronic instrumentation.

Ciqala, which means, ‘little one’ in Lakota, a native American language, takes inspiration from a wide range of sources including Blur, Suede, Pulp and Depeche Mode, resulting in the amalgamation of sounds that makes up her style.

Yet music is not the only thing to inspire the ambitious, boundary pushing musician. She also takes influence from the soundtracks of cult TV shows from the 80s like Chocky and The Tripods. As a result, there is a highly cinematic nature to the music that Ciqala is making which shines through on ‘Caving’.

The Hip-Hop Storyteller: Tony Banks

Based in Brooklyn, New York, Music Bear Tony Banks is aiming to be perceived as the ultimate hip-hop storyteller, and his latest single ‘Run!’ would suggest that he is more than on his way to achieving this.

As part of the LGBT community, Tony has fought against the typical mainstream image that hip-hop music is a hetero-dominated genre, finding his own corner of the musical world which sees him mixing a potent blend of rap, dance and house with his own genre of hip-hop. It’s music for the club, it’s music for everyday and most importantly, it’s music for today with the way that it highlights the faults in society and the oppression of black lives in America.

Many perceive the genre of hip-hop to be nothing more than fast lyrics and attitude, but Tony Banks has transformed the style into something much more with ‘Run!’, managing to tell a story beneath the pulsating beats and soul inspired vocals of collaborators, EarthTone and JwlB.

Standing out from the crowd whilst going from nothing to something, all on his own merits with the help of his outspoken and unapologetic personality – Tony personifies the American Dream. This guy is more than just an artist.

Vispa’s ‘Cosmic Force’

We find a lot of artists these days who take inspiration from bygone eras, particularly the 80s, but Iranian artist, Vispa, has gone full hog in empowering that retro sound in his music.

As an electronic artist, synthesizers are big part of his work and as we all know, the synth was synonymous the 80s period.

‘Cosmic Force’ employs a heavy dance beat with spacey synths and choral-like drones that could have been made 30 thirty years ago. However, this isn’t to say that Vispa’s music is out dated, by any means. He has reignited the flame of this electronic style and there’s sure to be many electronic music lovers who will be pleased to hear it make a comeback.

Since there are no lyrics in ‘Cosmic Force’, there is a definite filmic nature to the track: you can truly imagine it accompanying an action film, or even as a TV theme.

At the age of 19, Vispa decided to attend a music class where he learnt his trade, working primarily with synthesizers and keyboards. As he learnt more, Vispa began experimenting with his own melodies and beats, often just playing things by ear, how he wanted them to sound.

Supposedly, ‘Cosmic Force’ was inspired by Vispa’s daydreams on space and the world beyond, which can be clearly seen when listening to the track.
