Jonny Dee has been playing around his local scene for a few years now, and with talent for songwriting, and standing out in today’s market. Jonny Dee’s adolescence like attitude, mix with his laid back vocal style combine to bring the youthful edginess to music.

Somebody Told Me…Saint Mars’ New Track Has A Heartfelt Message To Anyone Who Has Experienced The Harmful Effects Of Bullying

 

 

 

 

 

 

This is quite an exciting in up and coming music, as well as young singers and stars in the making, however, it takes an established musician to give the younger generations a shot.

Ex Massive Attack guitarist and co have been on the grind to create something powerful and impressive to follow up from their 2017 EP ‘Ocean Blues’, ultimately coming to the completion of their brand new single ‘Somewhere Somebody’.

This track highlights the effects that bullying can have on those who are victim to its mean and horrible acts. To help convey the message, Tryzdin Grubbs, a young singer in the USA, who became an internet sensation after singing an Adele song to his friends and family.

With a powerful ensemble, the stance against bullying is only getting stronger, and we thank you Saint Mars!

Supporting Life Through Music – A Truly Noble Cause

Every now again, a story comes my way that is so moving, and so inspiring, it completely changes my outlook on, well, pretty much everything… This is exactly what happened as I sat and read about The Celebration of Life, Demelza and a little boy called Jaden.

Sadly, Jaden suffers from a terminal brain disease, and his parents were initially told by doctors that he wouldn’t live long. However, to the complete delight of his family and everyone who knew his story, Jaden celebrated his 11^th birthday in August, and the care he received at the hospice run by Demelza was instrumental to this.

A huge part of this care was music, and this is where the guys at the Celebration of Life come in.

The Celebration of Life is a fundraising project started by a group of producers from the jungle, drum & bass, reggae and dance worlds (some of Jaden’s favourite genres) who were moved by his story; Potential Badboy; Demolition Man; Jr. Dangerous; Navigator; Tippa Irie; General Levy; Alaska MC and Cowboy Ranger. They have come together to produce a song, and music video called “Celebrate Life”. The track has been described as ”an uplifting, beat-heavy, furiously catchy song which is aimed at all those struggling in situations beyond their control and showcases some of the best in UK musical talent from the last twenty five years, in a completely unique coming together of genre.”

To promote the release of the track, the guys will be headlining Jungle Fever at the Ministry of Sound on the 22^nd of September and all proceeds will go straight to Demelza and the hospices so they can continue their amazing, important work.

World Music Collective, Kalibe, Deliver Spiritual Healing

Kalibe, who have released their second album, “Mãe da Lua” , are an ever-evolving collective comprised of musicians from across the world, playing instruments native to their country alongside those from countries many thousands of miles away. This may sound doomed to failure but there is something strangely affecting about traditional African pipes combining with tribal South American drumming and even Mongolian throat singing.

This is very much music from the heart – instruments which will seem alien to many, possessing earthy, gnarled tones which evoke the surrounding of their creation – the pipes are a reflection of the tropical birds in the trees; the percussion, the streams and breeze in the trees. The fact that many of the sounds are routed in backgrounds completely unknown to each other historically do not prevent a perfect synergy – this is music to be shared and to provide positivity to the listeners.

Although the main language featured on the tracks is Portuguese, there are dialects from around the world, with no boundaries placed on how the messages are conveyed. The effect is quite startling and not a little emotional – there is something quite moving about such ancient sounds coming together with not just one album but on individual tracks.

Track Review: ‘Storytellers’ by Joe O’Donnell’s Shkayla

‘Storytellers’, originally written in 1977, but never released, is now out as a build up single to the reissue of Gaodhal’s Vision, by Joe O’Donnell’s Shkayla, which is available from 28^th April 2017.

The fusion album may be celebrating its 40^th anniversary, but the sounds that lie within it are timeless. This song acts as a crucial example of the band’s indo-celtic flair, with the soft sounds of the violin caressing the notes; the melody feeling almost like a precursor to smooth soul classics such as George Michael’s ‘Careless Whisper’.

What is wonderful about this piece of music is that it takes you on a journey of feeling, allowing the listener to be swept along, with the highs and low of its varying paces and tones, into different realms of emotion.

There are so many musical elements to ‘Storytellers’ that it feels ahead of its time, for example the electric guitars that slide in midway through the track are still being echoed today through funk numbers like Daft Punk’s 2013 hit ‘Lose Yourself To Dance’.

Limerick-born Joe has said he plans to use his tools as a musician to combat the commercialism that currently surrounds St Patrick’s Day, and with skillful music such as his, I believe he’s going the right way about it.
