Supporting Life Through Music – A Truly Noble Cause

Every now again, a story comes my way that is so moving, and so inspiring, it completely changes my outlook on, well, pretty much everything… This is exactly what happened as I sat and read about The Celebration of Life, Demelza and a little boy called Jaden.

Sadly, Jaden suffers from a terminal brain disease, and his parents were initially told by doctors that he wouldn’t live long. However, to the complete delight of his family and everyone who knew his story, Jaden celebrated his 11th birthday in August, and the care he received at the hospice run by Demelza was instrumental to this.

Learn more about the work Demelza Hospice does here: https://www.demelza.org.uk/

A huge part of this care was music, and this is where the guys at the Celebration of Life come in.

Watch the documentary about the project here: https://youtu.be/fuXbDleb310

The Celebration of Life is a fundraising project started by a group of producers from the jungle, drum & bass, reggae and dance worlds (some of Jaden’s favourite genres) who were moved by his story; Potential Badboy; Demolition Man; Jr. Dangerous; Navigator; Tippa Irie; General Levy; Alaska MC and Cowboy Ranger. They have come together to produce a song, and music video called “Celebrate Life”. The track has been described as ”an uplifting, beat-heavy, furiously catchy song which is aimed at all those struggling in situations beyond their control and showcases some of the best in UK musical talent from the last twenty five years, in a completely unique coming together of genre.”

To promote the release of the track, the guys will be headlining Jungle Fever at the Ministry of Sound on the 22nd of September and all proceeds will go straight to Demelza and the hospices so they can continue their amazing, important work.

‘Blueberry Hill’- Lenny

Lenny Bunn, otherwise known as ‘Lenny’ is back with an expertly crafted cover of ‘Blueberry Hill’.

‘Blueberry Hill’ was the favourite song of Lenny’s adopted father, Lyddon Thompson. Being Jamaican, Thompson opened Lenny’s eyes to another way of life and thinking, inspiring his music journey

The loss of Thompson made Lenny want to create his own version of the classic track whereby each instrument is recorded in different studios around the world. Collated at Lenny’s studio, mixed with the help of Martin Smith and mastered by Jon Astley, the single according to Lenny is “more beautiful than ever imagined”.

The track features talented soul-singer, Melissa James, as well as Ibo from the Jamaican reggae band, Third World.

Celebrating Album Release With a UK Tour – The Floating Bridges

The Floating Bridges have made a name for themselves in their native Queensland, working with local legend Brian Goodworth and receiving praise from Australian icon Jimmy Barnes when they supported him in concert. Their debut album, ‘Chasing Sunsets’, made an impact on its release in 2012, and gained the band a dedicated following. Now, ‘Creatures of Leisure ’is set to bring further success for the dreadlock-wearing members of the band.

The track features the traditional offbeat rhythms of reggae as well as the spiritual side of roots music, combined with Jimi Hendrix-style rock-n-roll guitar, which allows for an undeniably original yet authentic sound.

The Floating Bridges are touring the UK from 17th July  – not be to missed!

They may live thousands of miles from Bob Marley’s native Jamaica, but The Floating Bridges have been inspired by the legendary reggae artist to make music, and, combining the recognisable rhythms with heavy guitar, they have made it their own.

2Nice New Single ‘Sunlight’

10153723_742252632461722_7642575485299275733_n

Astoundingly versatile in his songwriting skills, London singer/songwriter, rapper and fusion artist, 2Nice is the kind of artist that only comes along every once in a while. His incredible fusion of reggae, pop, hip-hop and drum ‘n’ bass has been setting him apart for several years now, building true credibility in the underground urban scene.

And now, with new single ‘Sunlight’ release on QW-KEYMUSIC it’s set to show the world exactly how it sounds when pop, rap, reggae and EDM are drawn together, his star will continue to rise:

Gritty and raw while still having a polished sheen, ‘Sunlight’ is a single which could well see 2Nice break through from cult status to the mainstream. It’s truly impressive work from a brave and innovative artist not afraid to try new things.

All the more impressive, 2Nice does all this while suffering the debilitating effects of epilepsy. Using music in his everyday battle to overcome the condition, 2Nice finds the creative process soothing – allowing him to turn his thoughts away from an illness he has found it hard to come to terms with.

With his genuinely unique blend of genres, ‘Sunlight’ is just the first assault 2Nice is readying for the mainstream UK music industry this year. Hold on to your hats for 2015.

Pink Flamingo Final.indd

The talented artist has already seen success with past tracks and now looks set to do it all over again with the help of a Pink Flamingo.

Jack Traynor has revealed that he plans to provide audiences with a unique performance experience. The video for his latest single, Pink Flamingo being a great example of this:

Jack has supported acts such as ‘The Riffles’, ‘Dave Mcpherson’, and ‘The Coral’ (at Noel Gallaghers aftershow party) and ‘Dirty Sanchez’. He has also accompanied ‘The Virginmarys’, an ever growing popular US group.

Jack’s hobbies and personal interests are heavy influencers in shaping his latest EP. Jack’s interest in geography, travel and even population densities; play a key part in the songs sound and narrative. The lyrics are also inspired by the creation of fictional characters as well as autobiographical situations.

His latest single ‘Pink Flamingo’ is one of his most beautiful songs to date. The infectious chorus is only a part of what makes this whimsical tale of life and astronomical connections so poignant. It is based around the many events that take place under the constellations; with its main focus being about sitting outside the Flamingo Casino in Vegas. The sound is an indie pop mix drawing from influences such as The Killers, Belle and Sebastian, and Idlewild.

Jack has recently been recording music in Glasgow; with a music producer by the name of John McLaughlin over the last few months. John has seen great success in the past and looks to be striking another hit if Pink flamingo is anything to go by. Also, Teenage Fan club star, Francis MacDonald was involved in their recording session too.

“This is who I am” brings a bass fueled, revival to the soul scene. Produced by talented young producer KING for Lateko Records, it will be released July 14th.  Lateefah’s debut single “Here I am” held the number one spot for three weeks on the Reverbnation Christian chart for St. Lucia and also for a period of one week was number one on all genres chart. The single also reached #27 on the National Airplay Top 50 Gospel Chart (US) in December 2013 sharing the spotlight with notable artists such as Mary Mary, William McDowell, Donnie McClurkin and others.  Her second single release “Love Me Through” was well received by the media and already performing live sessions with some of the top radio stations such as Premier Radio and top venues such as The Vortex, she is one to follow.

London Born musician, Lateefah is a neo soul artist who after returning to the UK from her parent’s native country of St Lucia, is now working on further developing her gift for making music. Her new single releasing this year, will hope to demonstrate the talent and efforts of this young neo soul artist.

The cool Caribbean Artist started out singing in church at a young age, and gathers a lot of the inspiration for her work, from her own personal diaries from her childhood. Adapting these written records of her past, Lateefah has been able to create moving and soulful songs that entertain and educate her listeners about her colorful past.

Lateefah developed her passion for singing from early on as 3 years of age! Her earliest memory of being driven by the art, was trying to hit the right notes in the song “The Lord is my Shepherd”.  Rehearsing relentlessly, until she hit it with pitch perfect precision. After that success and a great deal of extra practice, the music industry became a second home for the young superstar. The music blood has been in Lateefah’s family since her father founded the 70’s Reggae band, Cygnus.

Herrington Codner wants ‘Justice For Freedom’ with new single

Image

Having impressed with urban reggae LP ‘Real’ earlier this year, Canada based singer-songwriter Herrington Codner returns this winter with single ‘Justice For Freedom’.

Aiming to bring a touch of sunshine as winter closes in, the track is something of a call to arms, with political overtones demanding ‘justice for freedom’ and asking the listener to ‘stand up for what you believe in’. These are familiar overtones in reggae music, and ones which Codner utilises very effectively with a catchy, pop-friendly chorus and a strong vocal.

The LP ‘Real’ is the third album release from Codner’s own imprint Center Lane Records. Written and developed on the Canadian roads and highways while working as a professional truck driver, the songs find inspiration from the sublime to the mundane. Based on everything from his personal beliefs to the everyday happenings of the world around him, they perfectly encapsulate a personal world view.

Match that with strong production and an obvious appreciation for a range of musical genres, and the new single is the latest in what promises to be a string of great releases. Codner has christened his blending of reggae and pop staples as ‘Ragwire’, a new genre which sets him apart from his contemporaries.

‘Justice For Freedom’ is released on Monday, November 25th
